Paradigm framing
Scholarly metadata and the need for its comprehensive accessibility.
Highlights
The preprint presents a novel approach to detecting editorial notices (retractions, withdrawals, errata, etc.) in scholarly literature. It acknowledges the existing paradigm of metadata indexing (Crossref, PubMed) but identifies limitations such as incompleteness and inconsistencies in publisher practices. The proposed "title detection" method supplements the existing paradigm by leveraging patterns in notice and article titles, thereby contributing to a more comprehensive and transparent system of tracking editorial notices. This work falls under normal science as it operates within the existing paradigm of scholarly metadata and aims to refine and improve existing tools and methodologies without fundamentally challenging the paradigm itself. It represents an incremental advancement within the current understanding and practices of metadata utilization.
